Digital Technologies

Background Information for Teachers

Space Critters  is a digital technology unit plan intended for students in Year 5. The objective is for students to learn about components of a computer and learn the various ways in which data is transmitted from one device to another. Students will design various user interfaces, including designing a space critter according to the features of their designated planet and learn multiple ways of sharing and transmitting that information to other digital systems. Students will be quizzed on their knowledge and understanding of computer components, internal and external devices and how to transmit data from one digital system to another. Students will work collaboratively with peers and present the user interface they have created to the rest of the class. It is important for students to learn and understand these skills in the 21st century as we are becoming more reliant on technology.  The resource includes a unit plan, worksheets and a rubric.
